Outside of my professional experience, mechanical design has always been one of my strongest interests, I spent three years with the Schulich Space Rover Team, including more than two years leading the mechanical-rover division. During my final year of schooling, my capstone team and I developed the GridWinder, which won first place in the multidisciplinary category at the University of Calgary Engineering Design Capstone Fair.
As a kid I was obsessed with LEGO, as I am sure a lot of engineers were (my favourite was always Star Wars). I believe that is where my interest with things like ships, planes, cars, and trains stemmed from. As an engineering student I also found myself gravitating towards CAD systems like SOLIDWORKS, as I believe I have a very 3D-focused brain. I was told this by one of my friends in our second year CAD class. In this class he always seemed to struggle with rotating drawing views around in his head to form the full model and vice versa, but I never found to have a problem with it. Due to this I always found myself being the one in group projects to do the CAD modeling, and I couldn’t have been happier!
Off the Clock
These days, whenever I’m not working on applications to engineering positions or going to the gym, I’m doing one of four things:
Watching TV shows or movies with my fiancé (our current series is Dune, highly recommended).
Going on walks with my dog or hiking with my fiancé.
Building LEGO, I’ve gotten back into it recently after a long hiatus from my childhood.
Playing video games, mostly singleplayer games with a few multiplayer ones occasionally.
